LWDT celebrates its 45th anniversary with the premiere of Lula Washington’s Something to Think About, a Tribute to Rudy Perez. In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the evening will include “Words from Martin” from The Movement. Highlights include:
- Donald Byrd’s Folk Dances (originally set on Ailey Dance Company).
- Donald McKayle’s I’ve Known Rivers, pioneering work revived!
- Tamica’s There’s Always Tomorrow, the choice to live life with rose colored glasses.
- Lula’s Call to Action, Super Bad from an excerpt from Ode to the 60s.

IABD Conference in Pittsburgh, PA

LWDT will perform at the historic Benedum Center for the Performing Arts as part of the annual Conference and Festival for the International Association of Blacks in Dance (IABD); of which LWDT is a founding member. We will share the stage with Legendary and Contemporary Black Dance Companies. In True Fashion Lula will bring something very different, some things to say, and “Something To Think About”, her tribute to her former teacher, Post Modern, Choreographer and trailblazer of his time, Rudy Perez.
